It’s Apple Time

THe air hasn’t started turning yet, but somewhere in my bones I can feel that it’s almost fall.  It is my favorite season.  It feels like my Sabbath season.  We go go go all summer “playing” but I never really feel rested in my playing. So by the time the air starts to turn I am ready for a rest.  I am ready to sit on my porch and take in the smells and sights of season change.

Things are changing in our baskets too. We are seeing a mixing of fall veggies starting to appear.  I love when the squashes start to show up! The apples are the best treat for my house.  They are the best “fast food”! I wanted to share some of our families apple recipes. With life hopefully setting into a routine for you hopefully it will be something you can use.

Apple Butter is my favorite.

Baking & Spices

  • 1/2 tsp Allspice
  • 1 tbsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Cloves, ground
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 cup Sugar
Other
  • 10 cups Apples (peeled, cored & chunked)

I dump all of the ingredients into my crockpot and cook on low for about 4 hours.  Then I take it all out and put in a blender to smooth it out.  I then pour it back into the crockpot for about 4 more hours.  It will darken as the day goes on.

Hint- If you have a Vitamix or Blendtec blender then you don’t need to peel or core your apples.  Just chop them and put them in the crockpot (seeds and all). When you blend it have way through the day it will blend seeds and skin too.  SUPER EASY!!

Here is another one we love at our house.  And the only thing healthy about it is…..Apples 🙂

Sometimes we do theme nights.  We used the “Apple Nacho” on a nacho night.

Apple “Nachos” with peanut butter and chocolate drizzle. Fruit, protein and chocolate makes this a great healthy snack at any time!

We just drizzle whatever “yummy” we can find.  Our favorites are Nutella, white chocolate, toffee chips, milk chocolate chips, m&ms.

I hope that you can find space to begin to slow down.  For us, we find that in getting back to our routines. Sit back, enjoy the geese flying over, and enjoy resting with the season change.

Happy (almost)Fall Eating!!

I am a wife and stay-at-home homeschooling mum of 4. I could sit all day and read cook books and learn new recipes. I love that I get fresh, clean, healthy food delivered each week that we as a family get to incorporate into our diets. We strive to eat very little grain and really limit our processed sugars. The CSA is a HUGE help in this.
